Howlite was named after Henry How, who discovered it in 1868 in Nova Scotia.  He was a Canadian chemist, geologist & mineralogist.  
Howlite is a silicate that can be found in large masses.  Its white to grey stone that has erratic streaks that look like cracks.  It has a Mohs hardness of 3.5.  Can be found in Canada, USA.
